Paints the river red
And the kids still pause along the bridge…
The garbage piled high
Against a crimson sky
And the shadows form ‘round the rims…

Beer bottle catch the light
Lying on it’s side
Tobacco packed tight in Terry’s lip
He leans over the edge
Prays and makes a pledge
And he hits the beer bottle with his spit

And Julie leans against the rail to watch the river flowing by
